Apprehension of Junkies in George, Lilanda, and Matero Townships
July 23, 2024-The Zambia Police Service wishes to inform the public of a successful operation conducted by the Matero Police on July 22, 2024, aimed at apprehending individuals who have been terrorizing the communities in George, Lilanda, and Matero townships.
Between 10:00 hours and 17:00 hours, a targeted operation was carried out resulting in the apprehension of seventeen individuals involved in various criminal activities. The following individuals were arrested:
For the offence Malicious Damage to Property:
• Fred Mwanza, aged 30
• Innocent Phiri, aged 29
For the offence Robbery:
• Gift Tembo, aged 28
• Daniel Zulu, aged 39
• Hazel Mumba, aged 44
• John Bwalya, aged 36
For the offence Theft:
• Justin Wamunyima, aged 41
• Kelly Mwamba, aged 40
For the offence Idle and Disorderly Conduct:
• Victor Shimukuni, aged 40
• Bwalya Muba, aged 41
• Daniel Mvula, aged 39
• Benson Fundafunda, aged 43
• Frank Habantu, aged 25
• Mike Chanda, aged 24
• Jackson Mulenga, aged 23
• Abraham Banda, aged 25
• Moses Phiri, aged 34
These individuals have been detained in lawful police custody for offenses ranging from idle and disorderly conduct to robbery, malicious damage to property, and theft.
Call to the Public.
We encourage members of the public who have been victims of these individuals to come forward to Matero Police Station for identification purposes. This is a crucial step in the judicial process to ensure that justice is served. Following a thorough screening process, the suspects will be brought to court to face charges.
In a related development today, 23 July 2024, at approximately 0040 hours, a police patrol team at the Matero/Chunga junction encountered a suspicious vehicle. The vehicle, a Toyota Axio, registration number CAA 8955 (with another number plate BAE 6896), grey in color, was found abandoned after the driver, who claimed to be a Yango driver, managed to evade the officers.
Upon searching the vehicle, the following items were discovered:
• Two industrial cutters
• Screwdrivers
• Pliers
• Catapults
• Stones
• A cracked laptop
• Three jackets commonly known as hoods
• Three head socks
These items suggest potential involvement in criminal activities, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the individuals responsible.
