A CONSTABLE working in the traffic section at Livingstone Central Police in Livingstone was on Saturday evening attacked by criminals, who hacked him on the head and chopped off his two fingers.
The attack, in which his personal belongings were also stolen, happened on the Lusaka road in Highland after he had a car breakdown.
Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka identified the officer as Emmanuel Munembo, who had taken a test drive of his vehicle, Toyota Chaser, registration ACG 9149, on the Lusaka road with his girlfriend only identified as Lorraine, of Dambwa Central in Livingstone.
“The two were attacked near Mulungushi University when the officer was checking out a mechanical fault,” he said.
Mr Daka said while checking the fault, five people suddenly emerged from a nearby bush, attacked him and beat him up with unknown metal objects together with his girlfriend.
“The girlfriend [however] managed to sneak away from the scene,” he said.
