THE Zambia Police Service Victim Support Unit —VSU has acted on revelations made by a 22-year-old woman, we shall call, “Mary Jane,” who alleged that her 61-year-old biological father repeatedly raped her over a prolonged period.

Shortly after TV Yatu published the story, officers from the Victim Support Unit reportedly contacted the victim and later met her at Lusaka Central Police Station, where investigations into the allegations were immediately launched.

Sources have told TV Yatu that the police’s primary objective is to ensure justice is served for the victim.

Efforts to reach “Mary Jane” on yesterday proved unsuccessful, as both her mobile phone and that of her friend remained unreachable.

Following the publication of her story, TV Yatu received overwhelming responses from well-wishers both within Zambia and abroad who expressed a desire to speak with or assist the victim.

However, like the channel, they were unable to make contact with her.

According to sources, Mary Jane remained under police protection as of last night and was subsequently placed under the care of a social welfare facility through a partner non-governmental organisation—NGO.

Investigations into the matter are said to be ongoing.
