Police Probe Kabwata Traffic Officer Incident

Police have launched investigations into an incident involving a traffic police officer and a passenger in Kabwata, Lusaka, after a video of the alleged confrontation circulated on social media.

According to a statement issued by Zambia Police Service Public Relations Officer GODFREY CHILABI, the incident happened on May 12, 2026, around 12:00 hours along Burma Road.

Mr. CHILABI said officers from the Traffic Section were conducting routine checks on motorists to verify compliance with road traffic regulations when they stopped a motor vehicle.

He said a misunderstanding later developed between one of the officers and a female passenger, who allegedly started recording the officers with her mobile phone.

“It is further alleged that a brief confrontation occurred between the officer and the passenger involving the handling of a mobile phone,” Mr. CHILABI said.

He said the passenger was later interviewed at Kabwata Police Station and released while investigations continue.

Mr. CHILABI said police wll determine the circumstances surrounding the incident before taking appropriate action.

He also urged motorists and other road users to comply with lawful instructions from police officers and seek clarification calmly where necessary.

Mr. CHILABI further said officers have been reminded to observe professionalism, courtesy and the Zambia Police Service code of conduct when dealing with members of the public
