The Zambia Police Service has warned that anyone involved in burning thirteen houses in Kampumbu, Serenje District, Central Province, will be prosecuted.

Responding to a media query, Police Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi declared that this is a matter the service is closely monitoring through Serenje Police Station.

He explained that officers received the complaint which occurred on November 6, 2025, as a case of arson and immediately visited the scene, which was duly processed.

Chilabi emphasised that investigations are ongoing, noting that a key witness has yet to provide a statement, which is vital to the case.

He stressed that once investigations are complete, all those found responsible will be brought to justice.

Chilabi underlined that no law in Zambia permits the burning of homes, and the police treat this as a serious offence.

He reaffirmed that the Zambia Police Service is committed to ensuring that all perpetrators are held accountable.

One of the victims, Sara Kashimilo, said she recognised several perpetrators and fears justice may never be served.

Another victim, Patson Changwe, explained that he now sleeps in the cold after losing both his home and livelihood.

A third victim, Rhodah Sibanda, lamented that all her sources of income have collapsed, forcing her to move from place to place to survive.

Serenje Youth Activist Peter Chola Mwanalesa expressed concern that the burning of the houses violated the victims’ rights to security, property, housing, livelihood, dignity, and freedom of movement.
