POLICE WARN, CAUTION SABOI, ZIMBA IN FORGERY CASE

Police have recorded Warn and Caution Statements from Saboi Imboela (47) and Mambwe Zimba (43) in connection with alleged election document forgery.

Spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi confirmed the development in a statement, Monday.

Chilabi explained that the two are being investigated for creating a document without authority, contrary to Section 356 of the Penal Code, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

He clarified that the allegations concern the signing of an adoption certificate for James Phiri during the December 2025 Chawama Parliamentary by-election, purportedly on behalf of the National Democratic Congress.

Chilabi stressed that this act contravenes Section 18(1)(b) and (2) of the Electoral Process Act No. 35 of 2016.

He noted that the matter follows a complaint filed by Stephen Chewe of the National Democratic Congress, reported on 23 December 2025.

Chilabi indicated that investigations are ongoing and further details will be provided in due course.

He confirmed that after the interviews, the two suspects were permitted to leave.
