LUSAKA, Zambia – June 2026 – President Hakainde Hichilema has paid tribute to Zambia’s former Defence and Security Chiefs, describing them as a valuable source of wisdom, experience, and institutional memory whose contributions continue to shape the nation’s peace and security.
In a message shared on social media, President Hichilema revealed that he had the honor of welcoming former Defence and Security Chiefs to State House, where discussions focused on national development, security, and the continued role of retired leaders in nation-building.
The Head of State expressed gratitude for the former security leaders’ patriotism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to Zambia even after leaving active service.
“Today, we were honoured to welcome former Defence and Security Chiefs to State House. The nation thanks them for their continued solidarity, patriotism and unwavering service to our nation,” President Hichilema said.
Former Security Chiefs Praised for National Service
President Hichilema emphasized that retirement does not diminish the contribution of former military and security leaders, noting that their love for Zambia remains as strong as ever.
He described the retired Defence and Security Chiefs as custodians of invaluable knowledge and experience that can continue to guide the country in strengthening its democratic institutions, national unity, and security systems.
According to the President, their role in safeguarding Zambia’s peace, stability, and democracy over the years remains unmatched.
“These distinguished leaders are a priceless reservoir of wisdom, experience and institutional memory,” he stated.

President Hichilema reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to drawing on the expertise and counsel of former Defence and Security Chiefs as Zambia continues to address emerging challenges and opportunities.
