President Hichilema Meets UK Deputy Prime Minister to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema met with the United Kingdom’s Deputy Prime Minister, the Right Honourable David Lammy, in London this morning for a high-level dialogue aimed at reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two nations.

The meeting focused on expanding cooperation across key sectors, with a particular emphasis on trade, investment, and energy. President Hichilema highlighted the strategic importance of boosting energy investments to ensure reliable power for homes and businesses, while also driving job creation and economic growth in Zambia.

“Our discussions reaffirmed the strength and value of the UK–Zambia partnership,” said President Hichilema. “We are committed to deepening collaboration that delivers practical outcomes for our people.”
Beyond economic matters, the leaders addressed pressing global issues, including the conflict in Ukraine and broader peace and security challenges. Both parties underscored the importance of stability as a cornerstone for sustainable development.

The conversation also touched on Zambia’s democratic progress and the upcoming 2026 elections, which were recognized as a reflection of shared democratic values between the two countries.

President Hichilema expressed gratitude for the UK Government’s hospitality and reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to a future built on strong partnerships, reliable energy, and inclusive growth.
“This is our path forward,” he concluded.
