Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts Permanent Secretary in charge of Youth and Sport Kangwa Chileshe has commended the reintroduction of the Zambia National Service (ZNS) voluntary training programme for school leavers.

Mr. Chileshe says the initiative is a critical step towards addressing youth-related challenges such as alcohol and substance abuse, while fostering positive values and discipline among young people.

Speaking during an appearance on ZNBC News, the Permanent Secretary emphasized that the programme is a proactive solution to tackle societal vices and instill a sense of purpose among the youth.

He stated that the structured training would empower participants with skills to improve their lives and contribute meaningfully to national development.

The reintroduced ZNS training programme, announced by President Hakainde Hichilema, had been previously phased out.

It is now set to offer comprehensive training in areas such as agriculture, construction, healthcare, and technical skills. The goal is to bridge the gap between education and employment, providing school leavers with practical skills that align with Zambia’s developmental needs.

Inclusive by design, the programme welcomes all school leavers, regardless of their academic background.

By promoting discipline, skills development, and community service, the initiative aims to equip young people with tools for self-reliance while contributing to the nation’s socio-economic growth.
