A 18-year-old woman has died shortly after being bitten by a puff adder on Monday morning.

Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Kaunda Mubanga has identified the woman as Gift Mutale Katonga of Mukwikile village.

Mrs Katonga was bitten by the snake when she was picking up wild-loquat, the fruit locally known Masuku in Zambia.

This was after she finished cultivating in the company of her 63-year-old grandmother.

Mr Mubanga says the snake was killed by her husband before she died at a clinic.
