It was all joy on Sunday at Ginfa Sabina of Kalulushi district as teams battled it out in the Rashida Mulenga sports initiative which saw the participation of both girls and boys football teams taking to the pitch in a game of football.
Eight teams took part in the tournament.
And Mulenga who is a parliamentary candidate for Kalulushi in the next general elections understands the need for more recreation facilities for youths as a way of keeping them busy and away from engaging in negative vices.
She stated that youths in Kalulushi district were indulging in bad vices hence the initiative.
“And that is the more reason we introduced this tournament which is an ongoing program so that we keep our youths as well as other members of the community busy,” Mulenga said.
Apart from sponsoring the games by providing jerseys and soccer balls, Mulenga also handed over empowerment packages to deserving players as a way of motivating them and others to work hard.
She stated that sports tournaments will continue being held in the various wards in the district.
“As we keep promoting recreation avenues for the youth, we recently successfully held football tournaments in Chembe and Lukoshi wards. 6 teams participated in each ward. Congratulations to the day carriers and special thanks to Chief Nkana the 8th , our hard working Councillors Prudence Nacinda, Greenwell Bulambo, the organizing committes and everyone that participated,” she said.
“We will continue working together for our community and hence my appeal to everyone to bring forward developmental ideas that we can execute for the betterment of our district. Together we will change Kalulushi,” Mulenga added.
