Police in Petauke are searching for a reckless motorcycle rider involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a 46-year-old man from Mataya Village in Petauke District.
The accident occurred yesterday at around 10:00 hours in the Kalawani area, near the UNIP office along the Reformed Church in Zambia Road.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba told Breeze FM News that the deceased, identified as Aaron Phiri, was walking from west to east when he was struck by the motorcycle. He sustained fatal head injuries.
Phiri was admitted to Kalindawalo General Hospital, where he later died at around 18:00 hours the same day.
Mr. Mweemba said the accident happened under unknown circumstances, and the motorcycle rider fled the scene immediately after the incident.
