PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says any form of divisiveness within the Church and the country at large should not be entertained as mature dialogue should take centre stage for peaceful resolution of differences.

And the head of State says when Government supports churches with money or materials for their varying projects, it does so as a noble duty and does not expect any favours in return.

Mr Hichilema said Zambians are and should remain a peaceful people as it is a prerequisite for unity and national development.

He also said the New Dawn administration will not infringe on anyone’s freedom of worship because this right is provided for in the Constitution.

Mr Hichilema said Government has a duty to protect the freedoms of citizens, which includes their freedoms of worship.

He said this yesterday at Railway Stadium in Kabwe during the United Church of Zambia (UCZ) diamond jubilee celebrations held under the theme “Changing the narrative” derived from the book of Isaiah 43:19.

Mr Hichilema donated K1.2 million to UCZ and bought its diamond jubilee chitenge (wrapper) materials at K300,000.
