Renowned Zambian clergyman Walter Mwambazi has sparked fresh debate on social media after explaining why he has never publicly condemned Zambian socialite Ben Lombe, also known as Mercy, despite regularly speaking on morality and cultural values.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Rev. Mwambazi said many people had questioned why he appeared more vocal on issues surrounding musician Yo Maps than on Ben Lombe’s lifestyle.

“Ben Lombe Has Openly Chosen His Lifestyle” – Mwambazi

According to Rev. Mwambazi, Ben Lombe has openly embraced a lifestyle that he believes goes against Christian teachings and African cultural values.

“It is simple, Ben Lombe has openly chosen to identify by a lifestyle that opposes every aspect of godliness and the standard God has set in His word,” Mwambazi wrote.

The clergyman further described the socialite as someone who is fully aware of society’s views regarding his lifestyle.

“He knows that even his own relatives and family members do not approve of his lifestyle. He knows and cares less,” he stated.

“Treat Them as Heathens”

Mwambazi argued that because Ben Lombe has never claimed to represent Christian values publicly, there was little reason for him to continuously speak against him.

“With such persons, scripture is clear, treat them as heathens,” he wrote.

He added that unlike some public figures who may claim to uphold moral or Christian standards while acting differently, Ben Lombe has openly presented himself without pretending otherwise.

“Ben aka Mercy has never claimed any semblance of godliness in any way,” Mwambazi said.

“Everyone Knows What He Is Doing”

The pastor further claimed that society is already fully aware that Ben Lombe’s lifestyle is controversial and not aligned with what he described as Zambian and African cultural norms.

“Everyone himself/herself inclusive is fully aware and does it on purpose,” he stated.

Mwambazi said because of this, publicly attacking the socialite would serve little purpose.

Rev. Mwambazi Calls for Repentance

Despite his criticism of the lifestyle, the clergyman insisted that he still loves Ben Lombe as a person and hopes he changes one day.

“Only God can have mercy on him and change his heart. Nothing is impossible with God,” he wrote.

Mwambazi added that while he disagrees with the lifestyle being promoted, he still believes in showing compassion.

“Remember, we love Ben Lombe as a person and appeal to his heart to repent and turn to God,” he stated.

Yo Maps Debate Prompted Response

Rev. Mwambazi concluded by revealing that he was prompted to issue the statement after many people accused him and others of allegedly giving too much criticism to Yo Maps amid ongoing debates surrounding the controversial “Budget” music video.

The conversation has since generated mixed reactions online, with some supporting Mwambazi’s views while others accused him of being selective in how he addresses public morality issues.
