Saboi Imboela Urges UPND to Uphold Internal Rules and Ensure Fair Political Environment

SABOI IMBOELA

National Democratic Congress (NDC) President Saboi Imboela has challenged the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) to remain strong and ensure a free and fair political environment in the country.

In a strongly worded statement issued on 7th April 2026 in Lusaka, Imboela warned that political power is not permanent and urged the ruling party to reflect on its actions before it is too late.

She said the UPND should avoid what she described as politics of revenge, embarrassment and “imingalato,” warning that such conduct will eventually backfire.

“Those who kill by the sword die by the sword,” she said, adding that the path of revenge may appear appealing now but will catch up with those practising it.

Imboela stated that the ruling party must remember that power belongs to the people and can easily be taken away.

“Political power is not permanent and soon the owners of real power will take it away from you,” she said.

The NDC leader further claimed that Zambians have not forgotten the pain and humiliation that she believes the UPND has caused others, warning that the same pain may return to haunt the party.

She urged the ruling party to uphold its own constitution, rules and regulations, and to respect those within the party who are raising concerns over alleged illegalities.

“We strongly say to UPND, please follow your constitution and accept those challenging your party’s illegalities. They are calling you to order,” she stated.

Imboela also called on the UPND to create a fair political playground, where political competition is based on ideas rather than emotions or intimidation.

“Fellow citizens, we call upon UPND to strive for a fair political playground, a competition of ideas, not feelings or evil mingalato,” she said.

She concluded by urging the ruling party to lead with integrity, unity and humility, warning that the worst challenges may come once power is lost.

“This is just the beginning of your problems; the worst is yet to come when you lose power. So UPND, be strong,” Imboela said.

The statement was issued by Saboi Imboela, President of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
