The National Olympic Committee of Zambia, through the Games Management Team for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, is pleased to announce Team Zambia’s flag bearers for the opening ceremony: 400m sprinter Muzala Samukonga and boxer Margret Tembo.

When making this announcement, Team Zambia’s Chef de Mission for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Rodrick Ndhlovu, stated that Team Zambia will have equal gender representation during the opening ceremony.

“Margret has displayed discipline and focus in representing the country, earning the distinction of being the first female boxer to represent Zambia at the Olympics. We are certain that this will inspire current and future generations of females to take up sports.”

As for Muzala, “It’s in recognition of his hard work, focus, determination, and results that he has earned the honor of this task. We believe he continues to be a role model for many up-and-coming athletes, not just in Zambia but across the world.”

He further congratulated the two athletes who have been entrusted with the significant responsibility of waving the Zambian flag high during the parade of nations at the opening ceremony.

The Opening Ceremony of the Paris Games will be bold, original, and unique. On 26 July 2024, Paris 2024 will offer an Opening Ceremony that is certain to join the most memorable moments in Olympic history.

For the first time in the history of the Summer Olympic Games, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in a stadium. Paris 2024 is breaking new ground by bringing sports into the city, and the same will be true of the Opening Ceremony, set to be held in the heart of the city along its main artery: the River Seine.
