AN accident has been recorded at Chambiahi Copper Smelter, after a mysterious object hit a security guard.
Police have disclosed that the incident occured on Wednesday at around 18:00 hours at the company’s car washing bay near the concentrator shed.
Copperbelt Province police commanding officer, Mwala Yuyi said Twambo Chileshe, 33, died after sustaining severe head injuries.
Yuyi said preliminary investigations indicate that Chileshe was working alone at the washing bay when he was found lying unconscious on the ground.
” His safety helmet was found nearby, with a crack on its left side, suggesting that he may have been struck with an object,” he said.
Yuyi said the deceased rushed to Sino-Zam hospital and later Kitwe Teaching Hospital where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
He however said that there was no footage of the incident at the time the police visited.
” The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Sino-Zam Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem,” Yuyi added.
