A 64-year-old security guard at Macha Main Market in Mapanza chiefdom, Choma district, has been admitted to Macha Hospital after being shot in both legs by an unidentified person.
The incident occurred around 01:00 hours on November 11, 2024, while the victim, Richard Mepu, was attempting to help his 19-year-old son, Lumuno, also a security guard, who was attacked by armed robbers at his post.
Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Auxensio Daka, noted that while at work, Mepu received information that his son had been attacked and decided to offer his help.
However, on his way, Mepu encountered an unknown person who shot him in both legs. The criminals then broke into the shop where his son was guarding and stole maize seed

Police officers who visited the crime scene found three empty cartridges and one projectile, suspected to be from a pistol.
