Byta FM reports that a Resident of Pemba District in Southern Province has challenged the Ministry of Health and local authorities in the Province to sensitize the people on the impact of consuming illicit beer.

The call follows 18 deaths recorded last week as a result of consuming a local brew known as Chijabi.

Ackim Mweemba says the death of the 18 is a wake-up call for authorities to intensify sensitization on the negative impact of consuming and producing illicit beer.
He says local authorities need to be tough on people found wanting.

Last week, 18 people from three districts in Southern Province died while others remain hospitalized after the consumption of a homemade illicit beer.
