A 20-year-old sex worker of Zambia Compound in Mazabuka who was charged with unlawfully wounding her client for failure to pay K50 after a sexual encounter, has been sentenced to two years simple improvement.
Kester Mukampande was booked going against Section 232 (a) of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Particulars of the offense are that on 20th August, 2024, Mukampande did unlawfully wound Samuel Kamwi, a bar tender, who stated to the court that he was her boyfriend.
Kamwi sustained wounds on his stomach, left arm and forehead as a result of being smashed with a beer bottle and teeth bites.
During the ordeal, Kamwi had lost consciousness and was rushed to Mazabuka General Hospital for medical attention, while the now convict was apprehended by a neighbor taken to Police.
In mitigation, Mukampande told the Court that she was remorseful for her actions, adding that she has a three-year-old baby and is an orphan.
The court heard her plea, however advising her that prostitution is not a way of making a living as there are other viable options such as business which can put food on the table.
