A 26-year-old man has died from suspected beer poisoning in Sinda District, Eastern Province.
REUBEN BANDA, of Matiya Village in Chieftainess NYANJE’s area, died on Wednesday, June 11, after consuming a local brew the previous day, Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at around 13:00 hours.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, ROBERTSON MWEEMBA, confirmed the incident, stating that Mr. BANDA had gone to a Bar in a nearby village, where he met three of his colleagues who offered him the beer.
Mr. MWEEMBA explained that shortly after consuming the drink, Mr. BANDA began experiencing severe stomach pains and later collapsed.
He was rushed to Nyanje Mission Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Mr. MWEEMBA added that police have since launched investigations into the matter.
