Socialist Party – SP Director Media, Brian Hapunda, has reported that the MRI and CT scan machines at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) are currently non-operational.
He said as a result, patients are being referred to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital, which has since become congested.
Mr Hapunda is appealing to the government to address this issue urgently, highlighting that people are struggling to access quality healthcare.
The SP Director Media explained that Magnetic Resonance Imaging – MRI and Computed Tomography – CT scans are crucial diagnostic tools in modern medicine.
He stated that they provide detailed images of the body’s internal structures, aiding in the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions.
Mr Hapunda added that MRI scans are particularly useful for imaging soft tissues, such as the brain, muscles, and ligaments, while CT scans are excellent for visualizing bones, detecting tumors, and identifying internal bleeding.
He said the opposition SP remains committed to providing credible and fair checks and balances.
He explained that by highlighting issues such as the breakdown of essential medical equipment, the SP aims to ensure that the government remains accountable and responsive to the needs of the people.
