A six-year-old girl in Nakonde district has allegedly been sexually abused by her step-grandfather who is on the run.
The victim’s grandmother reported to the police that this happened when the 56-year-old suspect was left home with the child on April 1, 2023.
The grandmother was at the time looking for ingredients for making chikanda also called “African polony”.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Kaunda Mubanga has confirmed the sixth case that has occurred since March 2023 in the province.
“Shortly after the grandmother left, the suspect took the minor with him into the bush for charcoal burning. While there, he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her,” Mr Mubanga said in a statement to Chete FM News.

“During the action, the victim cried in anguish—prompting him to stop but warned her not to tell anyone,” Mr Mubanga added.
He said the girl was taken to neighbours to inspect her body if what she explained happened.
By the time the grandmother returned home, the suspect was already gone.
Mr Mubanga said the medical examination is consistent with the allegation.
Three of the six cases of defilement that have been reported by the police in the last two weeks have happened in Nakonde.
