A Non – Governmental Organization, Beautiful Gate Zambia has called for stiffer punishments against individuals perpetrating tribal sentiments in the country.
Executive Director, Prince Kapinga has since made passionate appeal to lawmakers to consider making tribalism and hate speech a non – bailable offense.
Kapinga said an interview that making such offenses non – bailable would curtail perpetrators of tribalism and hate speech.
Kapinga further states that individuals promoting divisions in the country through hate speech should be given stiffer punishments.
“Above all, let us make such offenses non – bailable so that we bring this trend to an end. Tribalism and hate speech have the potential to ignite fire in this country. We should not tolerate this,” he said.
Kapinga made the comments at the back drop of a number of opposition politicians that have been detained in the past four days on allegations of hate speech and tribalism.
He added that the law should be applied equally to all perpetrators of tribalism regardless of status or political affiliation.
Meanwhile, Charismatic Voice Christian Network, national chairman, Dr. John Mwendapole has called on President Hakainde Hichilema and former president Edgar Lungu to sit down and address the seemingly political tension being experienced.
Dr. Mwendapole said at media briefing that a round table meeting involving the former president and the incumbent would be handy in ensuring the country continues to enjoy peace.
Meanwhile, Dr. Kapinga has advised the former president to tone down and start acting as a statesman that he ought to be.
