Taekwondo Federation of Zambia president Likando Nagode says his federation is currently preparing athletes for the Regional Championship to be hosted by Botswana in June.
Nagode says the federation is eyeing players who participate in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge to go and represent Zambia at the competitive tournament. He adds that several competitions are lined up and the federation is hopeful that athletes who will perform better in Botswana might be considered to represent Zambia in December during the Region 5 games to be hosted by Malawi.
“We currently have one regional championship we are preparing to be hosted by Botswana in June. We also have a series of other Championships coming up such as the African Senior Championship to be held in Rwanda. We would like to ride on the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge hosted by OYDC Zambia to identify these players. Last time our athletes took part in these games in Botswana they came back with medals” he said.
He further disclosed that 2022 is a busy season for his federation stating that taekwondo is gaining momentum not only in Zambia but across the region.
Last year during the championship in Botswana the federation minted one silver, and two bronze medals and Nagode expresses confidence that the athletes will bring gold medals this year.
Meanwhile, Nagode has dispelled reports that taekwondo produces a crop of bullies in society. He says many children from communities who take part in taekwondo activities at OYDC are well disciplined.
