The Tobacco Board of Zambia (TBZ) is set to release the price matrices for the 2025/2026 tobacco marketing season.

TBZ Executive Director Robert Mwale said that, as procedure dictates, buyers are required to submit their price matrices to TBZ for approval ten days prior to the commencement of buying.

He explained that TBZ will review the submitted matrices against the cost of production in a move to protect the interests of tobacco farmers.

Mwale emphasised that any price matrix falling below this threshold will not be accepted, ensuring farmers receive adequate compensation for their crop.

He added that this measure is aimed at safeguarding the welfare of farmers who invest significant resources in producing high-quality tobacco.

“We urge stakeholders to remain patient as we finalise the review of price matrices. We are committed to keeping growers informed and prepared for this marketing season,” said Mwale.

“Our priority is to ensure that farmers are fairly compensated for their efforts, which in turn contributes to the growth of Zambia’s tobacco industry,” he said.

The TBZ Executive Director reassured all growers, including independent growers, that the approved price matrices will be made available in good time and displayed on all licensed tobacco sales floors.

He said the Board will ensure that all necessary arrangements are in place to facilitate smooth and efficient sales transactions.

“We urge tobacco buyers to submit their price matrices in good time for approval before they start buying,” Mwale added. “TBZ has put measures in place to ensure the crop is purchased.”

Mwale noted that the Board is working with licensed buyers ready to purchase tobacco nationwide.

“Growers are advised to familiarise themselves with the buying process and requirements for a smooth transaction,” he said.
