Over 1000 athletes from the eleven sports disciplines at OYDC Zambia – Sports Development Centre who participate in the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge have been advised to draw inspiration from some of the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games-bound athletes camped at the facility.
National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) president Alfred Foloko on 9 July 2022 in a speech read on his behalf by NOCZ Board Member Rodrick Ndhlovu during the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge mid-year tournament appealed to young athletes not to relent in their quest to become celebrated top athletes in the country by winning medals at different competitions.
He said the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge since its inauguration in 2011 has helped several sports associations to identify athletes who have been sent to represent Zambia at games such as the Olympics and Commonwealth.
And OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer Dr Fredrick Chitangala noted with happiness that the Teulings Youth Sports Challenge has yielded positive results by contributing to teams bound for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. He disclosed that with the talent these athletes have Zambians should expect medals at the competitive games.
The tournament was witnessed by presidents and general secretaries of sports associations, school heads, and local councilors, who later toured sports activities which were being conducted.
The sports disciplines conducted were boxing, football, beach volleyball, basketball, netball, rugby handball, hockey, teqball, and taekwondo. At the end of the year, the grand finale will be held and top deserving players will be rewarded with medals and trophies.
