The Lusaka Magistrates Court has sentenced popular TikToker Francis Kapwepwe, widely known as “Why Me,” to two years imprisonment with hard labour for hate speech and expressing hatred against President Hakainde Hichilema, Vice President Mutale Nalumango, and residents of Southern Province.
According to court proceedings, Kapwepwe was found guilty of making remarks considered offensive and hateful towards the Head of State, the Vice President, and people from the region.
Before sentencing, the TikToker pleaded for forgiveness from President Hakainde Hichilema, Vice President Mutale Nalumango, Chief Mukuni, residents of Southern Province, and the Zambian people over his actions.
The case has continued attracting public attention on social media, with many Zambians debating issues surrounding freedom of expression, responsible use of social media platforms, and hate speech laws in the country.
Authorities have repeatedly warned members of the public against using digital platforms to spread hate speech, tribal remarks, incitement, or offensive content that may threaten national unity and peace.
The sentencing of the TikToker comes at a time when law enforcement agencies and regulatory institutions have intensified calls for responsible online conduct ahead of the 2026 General Elections.
