The twinning of Chinese and Zambian provinces is underway, marking a new chapter in the longstanding partnership between the two countries.

Zambia and China have enjoyed strong bilateral relations for decades, a partnership that began during the tenure of Zambia’s first president, Kenneth Kaunda. Notably, Chinese collaboration was instrumental in the construction of the TAZARA Railway, a critical infrastructure project benefiting both Zambia and Tanzania.

China has continued to invest heavily in Zambia, contributing to numerous developmental projects and solidifying its position as a key partner in Zambia’s growth agenda.

Recently, a delegation of Zambian ministers traveled to China to explore the potential for a twinning project with Chinese provinces, aimed at bringing Chinese expertise and development to Zambia.

To advance this initiative, a delegation from the Southern Chinese province of Fujian, led by Teng Jiacai, Chairman of the Fujian Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), has arrived in Livingstone, Southern Province. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Southern Province Minister Credo Nanjuwa, who is set to participate in the signing ceremony for the Letter of Intent formalizing the twinning of the two provinces.

Livingstone Mayor Constance Mukelabai and Wu Ming, Founder of the China Fujian Overseas Association of Zambia, also greeted the Chinese delegation.

During their visit, the Chinese delegation will engage in discussions focused on identifying mutually beneficial projects for the twinned provinces.

Minister Nanjuwa expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming collaborations between Zambia and China, highlighting the potential for further strengthening the ties between the two nations.
