TWO ARRESTED IN LUSAKA WITH 214 COUNTERFEIT ONE-HUNDRED-KWACHA NOTES

Two individuals in Lusaka have been apprehended for possessing 214 counterfeit one-hundred-kwacha notes.

The suspects are Amon Chima, a 41-year-old businessman originally from Kachilamaji Village in Lundazi district, and 50-year-old Gabriel Mwanza of Helen Kaunda.

According to Police Public Relations Officer Rae Hamoonga, the arrest took place on June 13, 2024, between 08:30 and 09:00 hours.

Officers from the Intellectual Property Unit, accompanied by three combatants, conducted a targeted operation at an unmarked house in Lilanda.

During the operation, Chima was found in possession of the counterfeit notes.

Upon interrogation, Chima implicated Mwanza as the supplier of the counterfeit currency.

Mwanza, originally from Zibanibana Village in Petauke District, was subsequently arrested in the COMESA area of Lusaka.

Both suspects have been jointly charged with possession of counterfeit notes, as per Section 358 of the Penal Code Act Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

They are currently held in separate police stations, awaiting their court appearances.
