National Food and Nutrition Commission (NFNC) Southern Province coordinator Sylvia Mwewa has advised people who consume alcohol to avoid taking more than two bottles of beers in a day to avoid health complications.
Ms Mwewa said in an interview that the recommended amount of alcohol for men is two drinks while women can tolerate one bottle per day.

She said the recommended amount of wine one can consume is two standard glasses, two shots or tots for brandy and two bottles for beers and lagers.
“My advice to people especially that we are in the festive month is for them to always remember that all alcohol should be taken in moderation because it takes the liver one hour to process just 15mls of alcohol,” Ms Mwewa said.
She said excess alcohol damages the liver over time, hence the need to strive to adhere to the recommended quantities.
