POLICE in Lusaka is searching for a woman who deserted a newborn baby, unclothed, in Lusaka’s Barlastone’s Jamaica area.
The Zambia Police Service initiated an urgent investigation following the shocking discovery of the male infant abandoned near a roadside around 14:00 hours on yesterday Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
The infant was found exposed to the rain by a passerby.
The incident has been confirmed today, December 10, 2025, by Public Relations Officer Godfrey Chilabi.
He stated that a 35-year-old female passerby discovered the crying infant and immediately rendered assistance.
With the help of community members, the matter was promptly reported to the nearest police station.
Police officers responded swiftly, ensuring the child received urgent attention.
The infant was transported to the University Teaching Hospital (UTH), where he is currently receiving necessary medical care.
The Zambia Police Service took the opportunity to commend the swift and compassionate response of the community members.
Authorities are now appealing to the public for assistance in identifying and locating those responsible for this unlawful act.
”We urge members of the public who may have information that could assist in identifying and bringing to justice those responsible for this unlawful act to report to the nearest police station,” the police statement read.
