UNSANCTIONED MARATHON DUBBED HEROES MARATHON ORGANIZED BY CITY MARATHON
We write to bring to public attention a matter of great concern to the Athletic Family and the Community at large.
We note with deep concerns that, unsanctioned marathon dubbed Heroes Marathon, is being organized by City Marathon and is scheduled to take place in Lusaka.
This event is illegal and has not been sanctioned by the Zambia Athletics (ZA) who is the custodian of Athletic Products in Zambia.
We wish to state that, ZA is the sole country’s athletic sports federation, and it is affiliated with World Athletics (WA), the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), the Confederation of African Athletics Region 5 (CAAR5), the National Olympics Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), the National Sports Council of Zambia (NSCZ) and other African regional athletic organizations whose participating countries or organizations are members of WA.
Having said that, it is mandatory for every Race Organizer to seek permission in the territorial region of Zambia to apply for inclusion on the ZA Calendar for a race to be sanctioned.
Zambia Athletics will not tolerate scrupulously individuals who wake up at midnight and start collecting cash from unsuspecting athletes and the general public for their financial gain using the Athletics Brand.
We have meanwhile, informed the Zambia Police and the Lusaka City Council to enforce the law and help ZA in stopping this illegal zam@mf.worldathletics.org info@zambiaathletics.com www.zambiaathletics.com facebook.com/ activity from taking place. We also kindly request the media to use its influence to help stop this unsanctioned marathon by:
1. Refraining from promoting the event through advertisements or coverage.
2. Publishing articles or news segments highlighting the risks and consequences of participating in unsanctioned events.
3. Supporting the efforts of the athletic authorities and local law enforcement to prevent the event from taking place.
We therefore, advise the General Public to be alert with individuals or organizations who illegally stage road races without permission from ZA and refrain from participating in such.
Zambia Athletics remain open to organization and individuals wanting to use Athletic Products & Assets for legitimate purposes to get in touch with ZA Secretariat for procedure details processes.
