The United Party for National Development (UPND) in Mambwe District, Eastern Province, has reversed its earlier decision to report Independent Malambo Parliamentary candidate Faith Lungu Bury (FLB) to the police for assisting flood victims.
Lungu donated 300 bags of mealie meal, 200 blankets, and 400 bottles of cooking oil.
UPND District Information and Publicity Secretary Adrian Kaleya had initially stated he possessed video evidence of FLB distributing aid to families displaced by floods and sheltering in classrooms at Chikoba Basic School.
Later, in an interview with freelance journalist Bangwe Naviley, Kaleya clarified that anyone wishing to donate must first notify the District Commissioner before helping flood victims who are anxiously waiting for intervention from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU).
Meanwhile, flood victims have praised Lungu for helping them.
They stated that they have lost property and livelihoods and desperately need help from government or well-wishers.
