…as girl child becomes endangered specie

By Francis Chipalo

The women’s wing in the ruling UPND have demanded for the castration of men that have gone on rampage defiling the girl child.

Castration or “Vitendeni” in vernacular is any action, surgical, chemical, or otherwise, by which a male loses use of the testicles: the male gonad.

The vernacular term was popularized by child rights activists and musician Daputsa Nkhata alias Sister D who composed a song called “Vitendeni” decades ago which called for castration of men who defiled girls.

However, this appeal by the artist has never been adopted from successful governments as cases of sexual violence against the girl child and women continue.

Enough of the everything, the women in the ruling party have made the same plea, demanding that Members of Parliament should push for the law on castration.

The women have made the demand following recent reports of sexual abuse among girl children including babies that are increasing in the country.

Speaking at a media briefing, Monday morning, the women have since said they are now living in fear as they can no longer live the girl child with their fathers and male relatives.

The angry mothers have wondered as to whether they were not enough for their husbands, further advising that if that was the case, cheap sex workers were readily available as opposed to prying on infants for sexual pleasures.

The women have also called for a stiffer law on sexual offenders, urging the police to ensure that cases of defilement, rape should not take longer than necessary.

They have also warned that any woman found to be shielding such cases in families should also be caged together with the perpetrator.

Meanwhile, the women in the party have stated that they are ready to protest naked against defilement in the country and have called on all women regardless of political affiliation to join them.

The women were represented by Lusaka province chairlady Angela, Muuka, vice chairlady administration Susan Buumba, Christine Bwalya – Lusaka district vice chairlady lady for mobilization and Dorice Bwalya vice chairlady Matero constituency.

The youth wing was represented by Susan Tembo who is UPND national youth trustee.

The country has in recent weeks seen a surge in defilement cases with other perpetrators being fathers defiling own daughters to pastors (papas) sexually assaulting female congregants.
