Voters Urged to Reject MPs Who Backed Bill 7

By Francis Chipalo

Citizens are being advised to think twice about voting for MPs who supported the controversial Bill 7 in the upcoming elections.

Democratic Union President Ackim Antony Njobvu says these MPs have betrayed their voters, citing similarities between Bill 7 and the previously condemned Bill 10.

Njobvu argues the bill prioritizes power consolidation over citizens’ interests, sparking widespread outrage.

Njobvu states that MPs who voted in favour of the bill have betrayed their electorates, adding that such leaders should not be given attention should they seek re-election in the 2026 elections.

Njobvu’s DU was opposed to amending the constitution via bill 7 from inception, citing among others, lack of inclusivity in the process, as well as the timing among other concerns.

And Kafulafuta independent MP Jeffrey Mulebwa backs this stance, saying he didn’t vote for the bill as it wasn’t in his constituents’ interests.

The two leaders were speaking last night on Millennium TV.

The backlash against supporting MPs is evident on social media, with many expressing disappointment and anger.
