WE CAN CHANGE THE WORLD AS WOMEN-MWAMBA
Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Ms Doreen Mwamba says women by working together, can change the world and make it a better place.
She says women should make their voices heard by alligning their abilities and strengths to the country’s developmental agenda.
Speaking as guest of honour during the mothering sunday at United Church of Zambia (UCZ) Shiloh congregation in Kafue, in commemoration of women’s day, Ms Mwamba implored women to denounce vices that affect women development such as early marriages and teenage pregnancies.
This year’s Women Days theme is “Gender equality today for sustainable tomorrow”.
“The issue of early child marriages is coming to an end!” she sternly said, vowing to personally deal with parents who are in the habit of marrying off their children at an early age.
She said government, particularly through her ministry has a lot of empowerment programs such as social cash transfer (SCT) among many others which women should take advantage of by forming cooperatives to improve their lives.
She said her’s is an “emotional ministry” which is at the very heart of transforming lives through poverty reduction, hence her call to women not to depend on handouts, but involve themselves in life sustaining initiatives.
And in her sermon, Reverand Loveness Chonya Zyambo said women are full of value and should take the mantle to be agents of change.
She also acknowledged that President Haikainde Hichilema has appointed women in key leadership positions which is a positive move to advance women issues.
The reverand urged women to be there for each other especially in times of need, to demonstrate love devoid of tribalism and violence against one another.
“I don’t like men who underate women. We need to work and compliment each other as men and women as we work in our respective societal roles” reverand Chonya said
“Your worth as a woman is when you bring about change in society” she further said.
She called for women to Pray for other women leaders so that they may succed at their work
Meanwhile, Kafue Member of parliament Mirriam Chonya thanked government through the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services for significantly increasing the number of social cash transfer and social security packs beneficiaries.
