A woman from Mwapona Compound in Choma district has alleged that a Zambia National Service (ZNS) officer and a cashier physically assaulted her while she was attempting to purchase mealie-meal at their town center shop.
Nchimunya Chilyata told Byta FM News that the officer has been trailing and harassing her since the start of September 2024, after she complained about an alleged scam at the shop where mealie-meal was being sold above the recommended price.
Chilyata narrated that during the ordeal, the cashier pulled her inside the shop, squeezed her mouth, and restrained her hands after she refused to leave the queue upon being chased.
She added that in the process, she lost her child’s shoes, which she was carrying on her back.
When contacted about the incident, Choma District Commissioner Gamela Sikaleya urged the woman to report the matter to his office so that it could be escalated to law enforcement.
