WOMAN SHOT DEAD DURING VEHICLE PURSUIT IN MONZE

A 46-year-old woman was killed early Sunday morning when Zambia National Service (ZNS) officers allegedly opened fire on a vehicle near the ZNS Milling Plant along Miyoba Road in Monze District.

The deceased has been identified as Stella Mwanza, a resident of Monze Prisons Camp. She was found deceased in the rear seat of a white Toyota Corolla with multiple gunshot wounds to the left side of the head, back and under the right armpit.

The incident is reported to have occurred at approximately 00:58 hours on December 28, 2025.

According to obtained information, six ZNS officers on duty observed the vehicle parked at the milling plant’s exit gate with its lights switched off and when the officers approached to investigate, the driver allegedly accelerated away, prompting the sentries to discharge their firearms.

The vehicle travelled approximately one kilometre before stopping. The driver fled the scene on foot, leaving the vehicle abandoned.

The deceased was found naked inside, with the vehicle showing visible damage from four bullet impacts: the rear windscreen, bonnet, rear left tyre and right magrim. Two bottles of beer and male clothes were recovered from the vehicle.

The Toyota Corolla has been traced to a Warrant Officer Thomas Phiri, a serving ZNS officer attached to the Monze Milling Plant, whose current whereabouts are unknown.

The body of the deceased has been conveyed to Monze Mission Hospital mortuary pending post-mortem examination.

The Police are yet to issue a statement regarding the matter.
