It was a blissful youth day celebration at the OYDC Zambia as youths from eleven schools thronged the multisports facility to take part in the 2024 Youth Day Quiz and Sports Tournament.
The over 200 pupils were ecstatic scratching their heads as they battled for supremacy when the quiz and football tournament was officially opened.
Teachers who escorted pupils were eager to see that their boys and girls were on top of things to get answers correct while others scored the ball in the net.
St Francis Secondary School emerged winner of the quiz followed by Chazanga Combined School while Arakan Secondary School got the third slot.
In football, girls category St Monica’s Secondary School got the first position followed by St Francis School while Chitanda Secondary School came out third.
The boy’s football category was breathtaking as the talented young boys dribbled the ball on the pitch which one would think was the premiere league.
Chazanga Combined Secondary School did justice by scooping the first position while Arakan Secondary School came out second leaving Highland Secondary School in the third position.
OYDC Zambia Chief Executive Officer Dr Fredrick Chitangala implored the pupils to remain more focused at school just like they did when taking part in the quiz and football tournament. He urged the pupils to avoid any bad vices in society by dedicating their time to productive activities such as studying, taking up sports as a hobby and joining several educational clubs.
The outstanding pupils and schools walked away with certificates and trophies which were presented by National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) Treasurer Victor Banda and OYDC Zambia CEO Dr Fredrick Chitangala.
The winning pupils left the sports facility smiling while those who were on the losing side have vowed to come back next year with a bang when the OYDC Zambia will organise another quiz and sports tournament aimed at imparting knowledge in the pupils by promoting the spirit of Olympism.
