ZAF driver dies in Samfya road accident
A TRAGIC road accident today has claimed the life of a Zambia Air Force (ZAF) driver and injured two others in Samfya District, Luapula Province.
The accident occurred around 10:30 hours on the Samfya-Mansa road near the Mibenge Toll Gate.
The deceased has been identified as Misheck Nkoma, 46, of Mtendere East, Lusaka.
Nkoma was driving a ZAF truck with registration number ZAF 4356D at the time of the incident.
Police deputy spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the accident.
Mwale said two other ZAF personnel traveling with Nkoma sustained injuries.
Warrant officer class II Dian Hamaamba, 44, of ZAF Base Lusaka, suffered a head cut, while flight sergeant Isaac Chisanga, 40, of Twin Palm Lusaka, sustained a dislocated right shoulder.
“Police preliminary investigations indicate that the accident happened when the driver, while driving towards Mansa District, lost control of the vehicle after a rear tyre burst causing the vehicle to overturn to the right side of the road,” Mwale disclosed.
He said all of the victims were rushed to Samfya District Hospital where Nkoma was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Nkoma’s body was deposited in the Hospital mortuary while the other two victims are currently receiving treatment at the same Hospital.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the authorities.
