ZAMBIA AND FINLAND TO INITIATE EXCHANGE PROGRAMS TO FOSTER SKILLS DEVELOPMENT
Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati has announced that plans are underway to initiate exchange programs with Aalto University and Meteopolia University of Applied Sciences in Finland aimed at fostering skills development.
Mr. Mutati said the partnership between Zambia and the two Finnish Universities on exchange programs is also aimed at aligning the country’s educational curricula with market demands.
Mr. Mutati also said the HAUS Finnish Institute for Public Management has pledged to send technology and science experts to Zambia for capacity building and skills transfer over a one year period.
This was brought to light when a delegation of nine Finnish Members of Parliament led by Ms. Krista Mikkonen, Chairperson of the Committee on Finance of Finland, met Mr. Mutati at Hotel Intercontinental in Lusaka yesterday.
Also present was Finnish Ambassador to Zambia Ms. Saana Halinen.
The parliamentary delegation is in the country to foster bilateral relations between Zambia and Finland and to exchange best practices in various areas, including planning, budgeting, technology, vocational, and skills education.
And Mr. Mutati reaffirmed Zambia’s commitment to enhancing collaboration with Finland, particularly in vocational and skills training.
Meanwhile, Ms. Krista Mikkonen, the delegation leader, emphasized the mutual benefits of exchanging best practices between Zambia and Finnish institutions, particularly in advancing technology and skills development for the benefit of Zambian citizens.
