Zambia Army has expressed deep concern over the growing number of fake recruitment advertisements circulating on social media platforms, warning the public to remain vigilant against fraudsters.
In a press statement issued today, Army Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sydney Mwewa condemned these scams, highlighting the latest victim, 22-year-old Alex Sinkonde from Mbala, who was defrauded of over K10,000. The scammer, using the names “Harrison Kapisha” and a display picture of Zambia Army Commander Lieutenant General Geoffrey Choongo Zyeele, tricked Sinkonde into making the payment under the false pretense of securing a place in the Army.
The Zambia Army has reaffirmed its commitment to working with law enforcement agencies to track down the culprits, warning that their days are numbered.
“The public is again reminded to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to these cheap scams,” the statement read. “Do not pay any money to any individual or group claiming to be involved in the Army recruitment process, as the Army does not demand payment from prospective recruits.”
To ensure transparency, the Army emphasized that official recruitment announcements are only made through traditional media such as newspapers, television, radio, and the official Zambia Army Facebook page. Any other communication, including social media messages, SMS, or unsolicited phone calls, should be treated as fraudulent.
