Former Solicitor General Justice Dominic Sichinga and Court of Appeal judge Justice Nicola Sharpe-Phiri were sworn in as Non-Residential Justices of Appeal by Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan at the State House in Victoria yesterday.

The duo’s swearing-in ceremony was attended by high-ranking officials, including vice-President Ahmed Afif and Chief Justice Ronny Govinden.

President Ramkalawan congratulated the newly appointed Zambians, expressing confidence that their extensive experience and expertise would enhance the Seychelles Judiciary’s pursuit of justice for the 98,000 citizens of that country.

Justice Sichinga who at one time presided over the Kabwe High Court, is a veteran legal practitioner with a career spanning over two decades.

Internationally, he has worked in the UK and the US, specializing in human rights law, constitutional law, and general civil law.

On the other hand, Justice Nicola Sharpe-Phiri boasts 30 years of legal expertise, with 20 years in private practice before her appointment as a High Court Judge in Lusaka.

She led the Family and Children’s Court for six years and was later elevated to the Court of Appeal in April 2021. Her expertise spans family law, constitutional law, banking, and corporate law, as well as arbitration and civil and criminal appeals.

As the two Justices take on their new roles, they will undoubtedly bring valuable expertise and insights to the Seychelles Judiciary.
