ZAMBIA HAILS CATHOLIC SISTER’S ’ GLOBAL FIGHT AGAINST HUMAN TRAFFICKING!

The Zambia Association of Sisterhood (ZAS) has expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering dedication of Catholic Sisters worldwide in combating human trafficking, a crime that continues to threaten the dignity and lives of vulnerable groups, especially women and girls.

ZAS Vice Chairperson Sr. Valeria Kabaso said the courage and commitment demonstrated by Catholic Sisters has restored hope and dignity to victims and those at risk of exploitation.

She applauded the Hilton Foundation and other cooperating partners for providing the resources and vision needed to strengthen anti-trafficking networks.

Speaking during the Sisters’ Anti-Trafficking Awards (SATAs) held in Lusaka, Sr. Kabaso emphasized that the fight against human trafficking must extend beyond award ceremonies.

She called for continued sensitization and community engagement until everyone is free from exploitation.

“The dedication and commitment of sisters demonstrate strength in addressing and finding lasting solutions to human trafficking in the world,” said Sr Kabaso.

Meanwhile, Jane Wakahiu, Associate Program Operations Lead for the Little Sisters of St. Francis (LSOSF) and Head of the Catholic Sisters Initiative, underscored that ending human trafficking is a shared responsibility.

Sr. Wakahiu noted that the SATAs honour the extraordinary courage and leadership of Sisters who serve on the frontlines of the struggle against human trafficking and modern slavery.

“The Sisters receiving awards offer hope, restore human dignity, and provide intervention for those who suffer and to the organizing partners, we firmly believe that faith-inspired leadership, commitment, and collaborative action are indispensable tools in confronting human trafficking,’’ said Sr. Wakahiu.

And International Union of Superiors General (UISG) Associate Executive Secretary Mary John also praised the award recipients, describing their work as a prophetic witness that restores dignity, brings healing, and shines light into places shadowed by suffering.

“To our partners Arise Foundation and the Hilton Foundation thank you for your steadfast support, your collaboration, and your belief in the transformative ministry of religious sisters across the world, I am urging my fellow sisters to continue your mission with renewed strength and deeper solidarity, walking together until every person is free, safe, and valued.” Said Sr. Mary.
