ZAMBIA HIGHLIGHTS FOOTBALL’S ROLE IN UNITY AHEAD OF 2026 WORLD CUP

The Ministry of Information and Media has held talks with former CAF president Ahmad and former FAZ president Andrew Kamanga on the role of football in promoting unity, diplomacy, and development.

Permanent Secretary Thabo Kawana said the meeting, focused on the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup and its potential as a tool for global engagement.

“As the world prepares for this historic tournament next month, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada, we are reminded that football speaks a universal language,” Kawana said.

Kawana noted that the tournament’s expansion to 48 teams for the first time would create unprecedented opportunities to showcase global talent and bring diverse cultures together.

He added that Zambia remains committed to leveraging the power of media and information to promote sports development and national unity.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the first edition of the tournament hosted across three countries.
