The Zambia NGO WASH Forum has embarked on a study to assess the performance and financing of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector programs outlined in the 8th National Development Plan (NDP).

Forum National Coordinator Bubala Muyovwe-Mumba stated that the organization’s focus is on the period between 2022 and the first two quarters of 2024.

Ms Mumba emphasized that the assessment will be a vital contribution to the upcoming mid-term review of the 8th NDP.

She highlighted that by actively tracking the implementation of government plans, the Forum ensures accountability and transparency.

Ms Mumba explained that by assessing progress against the plans, it facilitates learning and adaptation.

She said the assessment also informs future planning and strengthens stakeholder engagement.

The WASH Expert noted that sector players can collectively identify challenges, pinpoint bottlenecks, and uncover opportunities for increased investment and smarter resource allocation.

She added that the collaborative approach will lead to tangible improvements in WASH services across the country.

Ms Mumba was speaking in Lusaka during a ‘Study Design and Co-creation Workshop on the CSOs’ Review of the WASH Sector in the 8th National Development Plan’.

The workshop attracted participants from the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, the Ministry of Health, Zamstats, ZIPAR, GIZ, the World Bank, the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation, and members of the NGO WASH Forum.

The Forum is a dedicated network of NGOs and CSOs committed to improving WASH services in Zambia.

Its primary role is to amplify the voice of civil society and ensure it is meaningfully integrated into government-led plans and initiatives.
