ZAMBIA PARTICIPATES IN THE WORLD BANK GLOBAL ADAPTIVE SOCIAL PROTECTION FORUM IN ROME
Zambia has participated in the World Bank’s Global Forum on Adaptive Social Protection, held in Rome, Italy.
The conference convened social protection administrators from 35 countries, focusing on enhancing systems to support vulnerable populations against various shocks, including climate change and economic crises.
Ministry of Community Development and Social Services Permanent Secretary, Ms. Angela Kawandami, is representing the Zambian Government in various discussions in critical areas such as the Management Information Systems (MIS) and social registers, which are essential tools for identifying and tracking vulnerable populations and ensuring that
social protection programs reach them effectively.
Ms. Kawandami highlighted Zambia’s strides in the social protection sector at the forum and also discussed the impact of climate change on vulnerable communities and how adaptive social protection systems aim to build resilience against climate-induced shocks to ensure that support mechanisms respond effectively.
Zambia’s involvement underscored its commitment to strengthening its social protection framework by incorporating lessons from the forum to improve its capacity to anticipate, mitigate, and respond to various shocks, thereby safeguarding its vulnerable populations against future crises.
And World Bank Global Director for Social Protection, Ms Ifftah Sharif, applauded Zambia for making notable strides with the Management Information System and the Zambia Integrated Social Protection Information System (ZISPIS) which have enhanced targeting, enrollment, payment as well as monitoring and evaluating implementation of various social protection programmes.
Ms. Sharif hoped that this digitization should result in a more people-centric service to the beneficiaries and increase customer experience satisfaction
