TWO Lusaka-based robbers specialised in robbing Chinese have been painfully dispatched to the other side of life to explain to God why they targeted men from Asia.
Kenneth Makina and Warren Phiri booked themselves a meeting with bullets from Zambia Police anti-break in squad after they allegedly robbed China man Gong Yuxin, 41 of Libala and stole his firearm and K130,000 plus another $14,000.
Done with China, the duo diversified into Indian citizens and robbed Salman Ayaz Patel in Emmasdale of K25,000 plus other property valued at K44,000.
Based on this, police arrested the duo on 23 May, 2023 in Kanyama, and in their possession was seven bullets for a revolver gun which they claimed was with their friend named ‘Gift’ in Mumbwa area.
It is here that the story turned fatal for the two men.
Despite having dozens upon dozens of handcuffs, the police somehow saw it fit to transport Makina and Phiri to Mumbwa in search of the mysterious ‘Gift’ and the alleged revolver without handcuffing them.
And as usual, the story is the same.
Makina and Phiri jumped out of the police van and did a Muzala Samukonga sprint for freedom.
Beaten for speed, cops sent volleys of bullets to catch the duo, and, yes, the bullets did catch them in the their legs.
Despite the best efforts of the officers to save the lives of the two men , whom they only wanted maim, they were pronounced dead on arrival at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) were they were taken for treatment.
And in confirming the duo’s killing, Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the now deceased suspects are lying in the UTH mortuary, awaiting identification by relatives, although they are suspected of being foreigners.
