The Zambia Police Service has moved to address public complaints and misconceptions regarding the recent staffing exercise, which some citizens claimed lacked transparency.

Police spokesperson Godfrey Chilabi explained that the internal recruitment became necessary due to retirements, attrition, and resignations, which created vacancies requiring authorised action.

Chilabi noted that internal advertisements were issued mainly to qualified civilian employees within the Service, offering them an opportunity to transition into the regular police establishment.

Chilabi further indicated that additional positions were offered to candidates remaining on the waiting list from the 2023 recruitment database, as well as to individuals possessing essential technical and trade skills.

He clarified that this internal exercise, aimed at strengthening manpower capacity for upcoming national assignments, differs entirely from the regular public recruitment drive, which has yet to be conducted.

He affirmed that such internal recruitment and placement practices are common in many public institutions, not solely within the Zambia Police Service.

The Zambia Police Service reiterated its commitment to fairness and integrity in all operations, including recruitment, while urging the public to distinguish between internal staffing measures and the forthcoming open recruitment exercise.
